Identity

Ovagen is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Leu (EDL), assigned within the Khavinson series to hepatic and reproductive tissue. It differs from Chonluten (Glu-Asp-Gly), assigned to respiratory tissue, by a single terminal residue.

Molecular target

No receptor. As with the rest of the series, the proposed mode of action is direct interaction with DNA at promoter regions and with histone proteins.

Signalling pathway

Reported outcomes are transcriptional. The published work describes changes in expression of genes associated with hepatocyte function and with reproductive tissue, without an intervening signalling pathway.

Hepatocyte culture and rodent models from the originating group.
