Identity

Testagen is the tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly (KEDG), the member of the Khavinson series assigned to gonadal tissue. It shares its first three residues with Vesugen (Lys-Glu-Asp) and differs from Livagen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala) only at the terminal residue.

Molecular target

No receptor. The series is proposed to act by direct interaction with DNA at promoter regions and with histone proteins rather than at any membrane site.

Reported effects are transcriptional, in gonadal and germ-cell preparations. No downstream cascade is described, since the model does not involve receptor engagement.
