SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule, not a peptide, developed at Saint Louis University as an agonist of the estrogen-related receptors.

Molecular target

ERR-alpha, ERR-beta and ERR-gamma — orphan nuclear receptors, constitutively active with no known endogenous ligand. Reported potency is greatest at ERR-alpha.

Signalling pathway

The ERRs partner with the coactivator PGC-1-alpha to drive transcription of nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes. Published mouse work reported raised expression of oxidative-metabolism and fatty-acid-oxidation genes in skeletal muscle.

Research context

Because this is a small molecule rather than a peptide, the oral route is its native one — the published rodent work uses systemic administration and the compound is cell-permeable, so the capsule format raises none of the absorption questions that apply to the peptides in this range.
